We threw a birthday party for our company turning 140

Last Friday we celebrated the 140th anniversary of the inception of GAZ, or rather our predecessor company Friemann & Wolf.

After he developed a gasoline-powered safety miner's lamp, the Saxon engineer Carl Wolf found a business partner and together, they began manufacturing his invention in Reichenbacher Straße 68, Zwickau, the current location of GAZ. Friemann & Wolf, or FriWo, quickly grew to become a global leader in mining equipment, and around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, began producing batteries to equip their electric miner's lamps with.

With good food, live music and even a magician, we thus celebrated not only the founding of FriWo, but also the incredibly rich heritage of Reichenbacher Straße as an industrial site. “We had many nice conversations with colleagues across departments who reflected on their years at GAZ and how they feel very passionately about what we do here, looking forward to what the future will bring,” sums up Executive Director Michal Turek.
